About

I studied Computer Science at the University of East Anglia and absolutely loved it (both the subject and the experience.  Maybe the experience a little too much, but no regrets...).  Since then, I have worked as a software engineer for the largest IT company in the world, the largest law firm in the world and Europe's biggest media company.  Of course, if you talk to these firms' competitors, they will tell you a different story as there are many ways to measure these things (profit/turnover/employee count/customer count etc.).

My professional focus is writing enterprise-level Java and I absolutely love it.  I love trying to write clean, stable, elegant code.

Some men like to dress as women, others go to secret rooms to gamble.  My dirty secret is that I enjoy experimenting with hardware in my spare time, more specifically, micro-electronics.  Of course, these days the hardware generally needs software to run it, so that's lucky!  Whereas I like to think I can write Java to a high professional standard, my C++ leaves a lot to be desired, especially when targeting embedded environments.  As for my electronics knowledge, well, I've got a GCSE in the subject, but that doesn't take you far.

Seeing as this is just a hobby for me, Mitchtronic is a place where I can let my hair down, make mistakes and share with others what I learn as I find my own way because I have found others' blogs useful to get me where I am today.

I hope you enjoy what you find and can make use or take inspiration from it.  If you notice that I have made a mistake or know a better way to do what I write about, please do comment to let me know so that I can become a better version of myself.

Oh, and by the way, even though I said I love my job, which is true, I try to spend as much time not doing it as possible.  When I escape, my wonderful wife and I continue our great adventure together.
